Baker King, Kim Tak Gu Episode 21 Summary
Before watching this episode I really hope it wouldn’t fail me and thankfully it didn’t. I really like the way Tak Gu stood for himself and showed the undefeated side of him againts the intimidating Majun. Director Gu also made the “war announcement” get clearer and louder. Even Mr. Palbong made a very surprising decision for his students.
Director Gu and Kim Misun’s reunion was filled with talking about the past. Of course not the nostalgic kind of ways. Kim Misun asked about Tak Gu’s wellbeing. Director Gu wasn’t lying when he said Tak Gu was fine, but Kim Misun didn’t seem to believe him. Director Gu didn’t know that Kim Misun had known about the tragedy happened to Tak Gu 14years before. And he kept telling the truth when he said that things didn’t work as it should, but he’s trying to fix everything then.
Tak Gu’s mom then told Director Gu about what Mrs. Gong found in Madame Seo laundry the next morning after the incident of Big Madame collapsed in that rainy night 14 years ago. This information then lingered in Director Gu’s mind even after he got back home. His wife and daughters embraced him, but the way he saw everything has changed. A big curiosity had troubled his mind since then. He even didn’t hide his doubt and suspicion on Mr. Han when he asked him about the broken car brake.
Waking up from the fever, Misun fed Tak Gu a bowl of porridge. That’s the time when Tak Gu first realized that he’s loosing the sense of taste and smell. He got panic and went to the doctor to confirm it. What the doctor said wasn’t pleasant at all: His sense of taste and smell would be dull for don’t know how long.
For almost a week I almost believed that Majun felt sorry for the poison he got. He was scared, but then he thought of it as a mere accident and Tak Gu’s bad luck. For him, he just bought the herb, but he wasn’t the one feeding it to Tak Gu,so there’s no need to feel sorry, let alone regret.
I thought Majun would keep this matter a secret, but I was wrong. Instead, he confronted Tak Gu and admitted the herb was his. He admitted that he was actually going to poisoned him,but he didn’t. However, faith seemed to be on his side. He then told Tak Gu to keep it just for the two of them, otherwise Misun would never forgive herself since she was the one who fed him the herb. What they both didn’t know was Misun was actually there listening to their conversation behind one of the shelves.
Jin Gu saw Majun disposed the poison into the dustbin. He picked it after Majun and reported to Mr.Palbong. The master knew what kind of herb that was and knew how it worked. He also knew what kind of situation Tak Gu would face after he woke up. He told Jin Gu not to tell anyone about it.
Setting up a silent war againts his wife and also his right hand man, Director Gu asked Jin Gu for a help. However, this ex-mob man refused to go back to the world he had left long ago. Director Gu persuaded him by saying, “But what if it’s all for Tak Gu?”. Jin Gu just hesitated.
Smelling the fishy things happened to Director Gu, Mr. Han and Madame Seo thought that Kim Misun had to be behind everything. Then they planned to push her to show up from her hiding.
Meanwhile, Tak Gu desperation continued. The day of the competition was getting closer and he couldn’t smell or taste anything and that made making bread quite impossible. But Tak Gu was never alone. The devoted ~and the felt-responsible~ Yang Misun told Tak Gu that she would be his taste and smell while he had to use his hands to recall everything he had practiced. Misun felt terribly sorry for Tak Gu and as a girl who loved Tak Gu so much, she cried.
Seeing the mess Majun had done to him and to everyone around him, Tak Gu faced Majun like a man. Yeah I loved this scene. Tak Gu looked quite sexy for the very first time after all those 21 episodes. In this scene we could see how the soft-hearted Tak Gu was more mature than the ambitious and vicious Majun. He said he wouldn’t let Majun do such a terrible thing to anyone anymore and he wouldn’t let Majun made Tak Gu hate him.
So everyone’s back to focus on the competition again…Misun helped Tak Gu in practicing, while Majun did his on his own.
Neither Tak Gu or Majun actually found any solution to replace yeast in making bread. However, Tak Gu seemed to have fun with everything he did, while Majun turned into depression. Outside the bakery he met the mysterious man who threw a stone to the bakery the other day. That man turned out to be Mr. Palbong’s old friend slash co-worker. He said he was the one who invented Bong Bread. This man name was Park Choon Bae and yes, his name was on Mr. Palbong’s fermentation journal along with Mr. Palbong himself. This mysterious man then offered Majun a help in turn for a personal request.
Before the day of the competition, Tak Gu thought it’d be important to see Yu Gyeong once more to clear everything. I knew that Tak Gu wouldn’t fight for his love and just let Yu Gyeong did what she thought could make her happy. I thought in this case Yu Gyeong was quite in a dilemma. Her heart was absolutely longing for Tak Gu, she seemed to have no way back anymore. She’d stay with Majun…
I could feel these lovers’ heartaches when Yu Gyeong hold Tak Gu from the back and Yu Gyeong calling Tak Gu’s name while he only answer, “Uhh” (means “yes”) and nothing else.
The second round of the competetion finally came. Everyone’s, including Tak Gu, was ready for this day. Misun cleverly succeeded to pass this round. Tak Gu amusingly made a basket of different breads that he called “Failure Breads” while Majun “succeeded” in making bread without yeast. But who’s gonna pass this round along with Misun?
Weel, let’s have a brief look to the ladies issue before we’re going to the result. Kim Misun acted emotionally. And when emotion takes over conscience, you’d be a fool. Then a fool Kim Misun was. Ignoring her trusty people, Misun took the bait and finally had a face to face talk to her ex-madame. However this time, they both stood in the same level with probably the same internal anger and hatred.
Mr. Palbong asked Tak Gu why he called his breads “Failure”. Tak Gu then honestly answered that all the breads he made (in that 2nd round) were the breads from his fermentation experiments. There’re breads with yoghurt, wine, kimchi, etc. And he also honestly admitted that he failed to find any ingredients to subtitute yeast.
Then when it came to Majun’s turn, Mr. Palbong looked very surprise that he tasted a very familiar taste. He then asked Majun if the recipe was originally his for sure. Majun said yes. He also asked if he really didn’t put any amount of yeast. Majun said yes. He then asked if Majun would be able to demonstrate every process all over again under everyone’s witness that not a single drop of yeast was involved. Majun stayed quite.
Mr. Palbong then announced that the one who failed this round was Seo Tae Jo.
I think this result will bring more anger and hatred to Majun. He’s not the kind of person who would take a lost as a learning stage in life, especially from a competition with Tak Gu. I wonder what his reaction for this matter. Well, let’s just see in the next episode.
